Trish Wetton, CEO REPORT for 2016

Consolidation, CQI and Communication in Forsight Australia Sensory Group Homes.

I am pleased to present my Report for 2016. Last year I reported on the significant change for such a small organisation and spoke of our goal for 2015-16 to be a year of Consolidation.

Forsight Australia opened one more group home in 2016, bringing our total to 13, together with our Group Home Support Centre in North Rocks. The year 2014-15 was a year of significant growth, when we opened five new group homes almost at the same time, making 2015-16 very different by comparison.

Forsight Australia remains a Specialist service, a trans-disciplinary organisation where resident privacy is respected, professionalism and sharing of knowledge is communicated equally with members of ‘One Forsight One Team’ to ensure the best outcome is achieved for each resident.

On Thursday 5 June 2014, a team of Volunteers from Genworth will team up with Ross Liddle from United Way Australia to make over the garden and do an indoor project at Forsight’s Pines Group Home at Marrickville.

From the moment the team of Volunteers walk through the front door in their distinctive polo shirts there is a frenzy of activity that takes place under the watchful eye of Ross Liddle who is a skilled United Way Sydney Team Leader and Volunteer Co-odinator of Corporate projects.

Forsight employees provide refreshments throughout the entire day, plus lunch for the hard working Volunteers. In addition, they volunteer alongside the Corporate volunteers to share the experience.

We are looking forward to welcoming the Genworth team once again to Forsight with assistance from United Way Australia.

New Group Homes for Forsight

Forsight moves closer to opening four new ADHC/Forsight Sensory Group Homes for 20 adults who are Deafblind currently living in large ADHC residences.

Planning meetings are being held to ensure a seamless transition for all residents into their exciting new environments at Blacktown, Westmead and Miranda. Special attention is being paid to colour and texture and the benefits that flow to adults who are Deafblind as they touch different surfaces to find their way around their new home.

Distinctive aromas will let people know they are back in their familiar surroundings during the early stages of the transition. Forsight is documenting progress during this exciting time measure the success of the residents as they settle into their new environments.

Thank you to volunteer Mike Bailey

Forsight appreciates Past Chairman Michael Bailey for his voluntary contribution to the 2013 Annual Review. Michael has again captured the essence of the Forsight Community at work and at home. Again this year, Forsight will benefit from this interesting and topical resource that tells the Forsight Story for all to enjoy.

Donors appreciate that Forsight applies 100 percent of all Specific Donations to each project that is agreed to at the time a donation is received. It is even better for donors to be able to follow the progress of where their donation is going, followed by a picture of the project when it is complete.

Exciting News on the current Genworth project

The Genworth Sensory Hands-on Cooking Project is at last underway. Work had delayed due to the weather in Sydney and its impact on our builder Anthony Dean, John R Dean Constructions Pty Ltd. Everyone was excited when work commenced at Illawarra group home on Monday 16th April 2012.

I was on hand at 7am with Kylie Horsfall, House Manager and the residents to photograph the builders dismantling the old kitchen cupboards and removing the old tiled flooring… see attached images.

Welcome to Forsight

Forsight welcomed two new directors to the Board on Wednesday 22nd February 2012. Chairman Mike Bailey paid tribute to Toni Alexander and John Allsopp for their volunteering and their commitment to serve on the Forsight board.

Toni and John individually bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the board table. All the adults who are deaf/blind with additional disabilities will benefit from the energy and goodwill that having a full complement of board members brings.

Individualised Funding Seminar in Sydney

Forsight Board members and senior management attended the NDS ‘Leading the Way’ Seminar at the Sydney Hilton on Sunday 12th February 2012. Mike Bailey, Hilton McKenna, Andrew McRobert, Toni Alexander and John Allsopp attended along with Trish Wetton and Miriana Gazivoda.

Everyone enjoyed the full day of interesting speakers talking about topics, including person-centred planning and individualised funding. By July 2014 a new funding arrangement will be put in place by NSW Ageing, Disability and Home Care that will radically change the way disability programs are funded in the future.

There will be challenges along the way and Forsight Board and management are making sure they are up there with the best.

Genworth Capital Works Project - 2012

Forsight is currently renovating the kitchens at Jacaranda and Illawarra community group homes with funding provided by Genworth through United Way Australia. Both kitchens will be fully wheelchair accessible to allow the adults who are deafblind with additional disabilities to participate in the Forsight Sensory Hands-on Cooking Program. The kitchens have been designed with each adult in mind so that each individual can enjoy cooking their favourite recipes. Read More...

United Way Australia Working Bees

We are currently planning a number of working bees to be coordinated by United Way Australia and our Corporate Partners at our community group homes. Forsight community group homes stand out in the community because they blend in with their neighbours and compete for the best gardens.

We could not achieve this outcome without United Way Australia’s support for which we are very grateful. More on this in the second half of 2011.

Royal Freemason’s Benevolent Institute has donated 5 plastic wheelchairs for the Hands-On Cooking project. If the budding Cooks happen to get covered in flour it won't matter - it will be fun with lots of laughter.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

CEO Report to Board

My Report covers the period 23rd September to 1st December 2010. On 27th October a very successful AGM was held at the Epping Club. The meeting was well attended with over 75 residents, staff, Board members, Foundation members and friends in attendance. I was contacted after the meeting by people who attended telling me they had enjoyed this event.

Funding Approval for Jacaranda

We have exciting news about the approval of funding for our main bathroom upgrade at Jacaranda House.

We set up a meeting with the builder and Miriana at Jacaranda to discuss the commencement of this latest project including the installation of a walk in bath.

The bath company is bringing their mobile showroom to Forsight on Tuesday to demonstrate the walk in bath.  I can’t believe how fortunate Forsight is to be able create sustainable accommodation for our deafblind adults with ongoing donations from Genworth Financial, our Corporate partners, through the support of United Way Australia.
